It’s time to think outside the Lunch Box! Whether you are planning to pack a sack lunch every day, feed your homeschool family, or just need something delicious for your preschool age kids, THIS is the post for you!
I have compiled all our favorite lunch ideas, hoping to spur on some new ideas and creativity on your part! I am a firm believer that picky eaters are made, not born, so I love to introduce new things to my family, and over time, they learn to eat and love them. If you see a recipe title that interests you along the way, simply click the title to be taken to that recipe.
6 Steps to Keeping Lunch Fun
1. Try New Lunch Meat & Cheese Sandwich Combos
- Ham and Sharp Cheddar
- Roast Beef and Muenster or Provolone
- Turkey and Herb & Garlic Cheese
- Chicken Breast and Buffalo Colby Jack or Smoky Swiss
2. Rotate “Salad” Sandwiches
Tuna Salad Sandwich
Ham Salad Sandwich with Sprouts
3. Introduce Hot Sandwiches and Hand-Helds
4. Change Shapes
Sometimes just a simple shape change, makes Lunch seem new all over again!
Whole Wheat Bread: Flat Bread, Wraps, Pita Pockets, Mini Cocktail Rolls and Hoagies
Orange Veggies: Carrot Chips, Carrot Sticks, Whole Peeled Carrots, Petite Baby Carrots and Orange Pepper Slices
Green Veggies: Snow Peas, Broccoli, Sugar Snap Peas, Green Pepper and Celery
Red Veggies: Radishes, Red Pepper Slices, Cherry Tomatoes and Sliced Tomatoes with salt.
*At our house, sometimes veggies are served with Ranch or Dill Dip, sometimes they are not. I like for them to learn to eat it both ways!
5. Serve Simple Salads
6. Think OUTSIDE the Bun
Pickles In a Blanket, served with Carrot chips and an Apple
Hummus & Pita Bread/Chips, served as a dip along side Petite Baby Carrots, and Grapes.
Seasoned Chicken Breast Cubes, served cold. Add Cheese Cubes, Snow Peas and Grape Tomatoes for a colorful plate that is fun to eat with fingers or a toothpick!
Cheese Roll Up, Whole Wheat Tortilla and Mexican Cheese, serve with Guacamole and Chips

Bean Dip: 1 can beans, 1 large dollop sour cream & 6 T. Mild Salsa. Heat and mix together, top with Shredded Cheese. Serve in individual dip bowls with Whole Wheat or Blue Tortilla Chips.
Mini Pizzas on Whole Wheat English Muffin, let each kid make their own! Bake at 350 until cheese is melted. Serve with a side salad.
Corn and Black Bean Salsa Dip, beans make a great protein!!!! Serve with chips and raw veggies.
I hope this gives you a great jumping off point for keeping lunches fun this year, whether they are sent to school, or enjoyed at home.
