Thankful Thursday: Tiny Kicks

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;  His love endures forever.  Psalm 107:1

Pregnancy is an amazing thing.  I am in awe each and every single time we have a baby.  Watching my belly grow, feeling movement, then bigger movement, then SEEING movement is a wonderful, miraculous experience!  I love that moms get to know by feeling, that their precious little one is growing stronger and bigger by the week!

At 18 weeks, I was not satisfied with the very tiny movements I had felt so far.  I would sit or lie down and try to pay attention and feel the baby move.  Every once in a while, I would feel a tiny little something.  At 19 weeks, not much more.  Silly as it sounds, I had started really wondering if our baby had limbs.  It’s funny now, because the next week, at the 20 week sonogram, not only did we see a fully developed baby, complete with arms, legs, hands, feet, fingers and toes, but we saw how active he really is!

Apparently, he just has plenty of room in there to move around, so I don’t always feel what it is he’s up to.  :)

Anyway, I was relieved at that appointment to see how well he’s doing.  My mind at ease, I was free to not worry, and simply sit back and enjoy feeling (and watching) our sweet new baby boy grow.

Last night, I got to SEE him move for the first time!  He was flipping and turning and kicking.  I watched as my belly moved in correspondence to his dance.  I’m quite certain he’s gotten wind of the fact that he has seven older brothers awaiting his arrival and that he’ll need to be in tip-top shape!

So thankful for the miracle of growing a new life, for a healthy baby boy, and for his tiny (and sometimes not so tiny) kicks!

What are you thankful for this week?

  1. Whew….got in a Thankful Thrusday post this week! I shared my gratitude for 20 years of marriage! :)

It was sweet reading about your baby kicks. It seems with each pregnancy, it takes a little longer before I start feeling those wonderful kicks. I’m always reassured when I do! :-)

I just started reading your blog a little while ago – we must be due around the same time! I’m nearly 21 weeks with my first and I started feeling movement “for sure” in the 18th week. I too, am thankful for those kicks and how awesome it is to be growing a baby inside of me. It’s so amazing! :)

  3. I love it when you can tell the difference between tiny kicks and gas bubbles. *giggle* :)
