Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever. Psalm 107: 1
I’m ready. For a season change, that is. My Grandma always said she loved all the seasons, and about this time of year, I am reminded just why she appreciated the change from summer to fall. I live in Texas, where it’s been a scorching 100 degrees plus for well over a month now. Our electric bill has been absurd. We’re even spending a bit more in gas due to leaving our car on to stay cool at outdoor sports practices. Everywhere we drive, we can see where sprinkler heads just aren’t reaching far enough because the grass is shriveled, dry, and yellow in those places.
I’ve always been a summer girl, but I’ve got to say…..Fall, I’m ready for your crisp, cool air. I’m ready for the sound of crunching leaves. And I’m already starting to entertain thoughts of a Thanksgiving menu.
It’s not just the physical season that’s about to change for us, though. We’re experiencing changes in several other areas, too.
- We’re back in sports with some of the boys and it feels great! They needed somewhere to get their extra energy directed!
- I’m 14 weeks pregnant today with out 8th baby. I couldn’t be more thankful to be entering the glorious second trimester and to be feeling better as a result.
- And I’m so very excited that it’s almost time to start back to school! Starting back to school for us means returning to a more regular routine. It means more structured days, which I personally enjoy. It means more time in the schoolroom, which will result in less mess being made throughout the day (less work on one end for me.)
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1
Summer’s been a break, but I’m ready for a new season. Are you? What are you thankful for this week?

So excited to finally participate in this! Have been wanting to.
I’m thankful for new seasons too.
When do you usually start school?
So far, we’ve followed pretty closely the public school calendar. I am entertaining thoughts of doing something different next year, though. The month of August seems to just waste away….Too hot to spend a lot of time outside, I find that our family has more idle time, just waiting for school to start it seems…..So maybe our school year (where we live) should be more like August 1 – May 1. ??? What about you?
We live in Texas too! I’m so over this weather. We got about 5 min of rain yesterday and cooler temps of 80, that was great! We were very thankful for that. Fall is my favorite time of year! Ready for the cowboys to start playing, cooler temps, and the yummy fall dishes….chilli, chicken and dumplings, soups, yummy!
Oh, that food sounds so wonderful. I’m with ya, Rachel!
