Yeah, I know, it probably sounds quirky to say that I’m thankful to be getting organization projects done, but it’s true.
Getting the boys’ rooms, specifically, more in order is a blessing to me for a few reasons.
For one, their rooms are just neater and cleaner now that we’ve been through every drawer and everything in (one of our boys’ rooms) closet.
Here’s the before picture that I almost forgot to snap, which explains why it’s in the middle of the floor instead of against the wall where it was.
Notice the overflowing amount of clothing, a lot of which should have been on hangers and NOT in the drawer at all. And the dust. Yes, that is visible dust toward the back of this dresser. Shhh.. Don’t tell.
I’m so thankful that we thought of an alternative, working solution to better managing their laundry, and that we were able to purchase a new unit for their room that we are all enjoying.
We got this cubby organizer and compatible bins at Ikea for a lot less than what we would have spent on traditional furniture. And since the bins are removable, the boys are able to bring them down, fill them with their folded clothing, straight from Mom to bin, then promptly return the bins back to their appropriate spots in the cubby.
Is it fool-proof? Nah. But it’s a lot better than them taking stacks of folded laundry up the stairs, dropping some along the way, and sometimes shoving it into the wrong drawer that doesn’t have enough space.
We still have a bit of work to do in some of the other boys’ rooms, but we’re making progress. We did buy a unit that is double this size for our schoolroom, and I’m slowly organizing centers and activities and filling those colorful bins, too. I’m having fun along the way. It’s such a blessing to have order in every room of the home. It’s freeing. I feel like I have more time to be doing what I want to be doing, and that’s focusing on my children.
What are YOU thankful for this Thursday?
