I can’t begin to describe how wonderful it is to sleep several hours a night uninterrupted after a few long years of NOT sleeping through the night. It’s a long, complicated story of why Levi, then Landen, then Lincoln all took almost two years, so we’ll just pick up with Lincoln.
Hallelujah, the boy is sleeping til morning these days!
Any weary mama can vouch for me when I say it changes your world when your body begins to get the rest it needs. And after five years, I’m welcoming these restful nights. Especially with as busy as my days have become balancing being a mom to older, busy boys and homeschooling and chasing after these little guys….Whew! I needed it.
Call me a softie or whatever, but I never could bring myself to just “tough it out” and let Lincoln “cry it out”. Sure, there were nights we tried that, out of wishful thinking, but he never went for it, and we still always pick him up if he wakes in the middle of the night.
We put his crib in the room with his buddies, Levi and Landen not long ago, and he has slowly been learning that he just might like it in there with them.
He’s been showing me he is ready for some tiny steps towards independence, and I suppose sleeping on his own comes with the territory. Yesterday at the pumpkin patch, he let me know he didn’t want to sit in my lap for the hayride, and took his seat next to me on the hay bale. I smiled and frowned all at the same time. Bittersweet it is to watch your babe begin to bloom into a sweet young man. It happens quick!
So while I am happy my weary head gets a few more hours to grace the much anticipated pillow each night, I know this milestone marks a new stage for another baby launching into boyhood.
It seems just yesterday I was following our oldest around as he toddled ahead of me. You blink and they’re grown, I promise!
Enjoy your babies. Sleep is sweet, but they’re only little once!
