With an ever-growing family, I’ve had to learn a few things about eating well for less. You can do it, too.
1. Make a weekly menu a couple days before grocery shopping day. It’s not that hard. You know what your family likes to eat, and if not, just ask them. Don’t make a menu for breakfast or lunch, just dinner.
2. Make your grocery list from the menu you’ve written. Include every ingredient you will need to make all the meals. Do not leave anything off! Look up the recipe if you have to. Include the lunch and breakfast items that you know your family eats every week, too.
3. Shop at Walmart or use coupons on grocery day. Walmart is definitely NOT my favorite place for high quality foods, but they usually have everything I need and for WAY LESS. For instance, my favorite organic granola bars are $2.50 a box at Walmart. They are $3.59 at Kroger. It’s not rocket science to see that it can add up quick.
4. Shop ALONE. It’s so sweet of you to take along your precious little ones. It’s even more awesome when everyone comments on how well behaved your children are, but for crying out loud, leave them at home with Dad. Not because you can’t or don’t want to take them, it’s just that they keep PUTTING THINGS IN THE CART THAT AREN’T ON THE COTTON PICKIN’ LIST!!!!
5. Stick to the LIST!!!! Do not be tempted to throw into the cart anything extra. And for this reason, don’t shop when you are hungry!! Do you see that it’s mostly about the list here??? Yep. I could very well go crazy without my lists.

What do you do to save money?

I love the thought of the list but it only 1/2 works for me. I tend to put cookies and impulse buys on my list.
most of these things work well for me. I also write down (or take a picture on my phone) of items i use a lot and the place they are the cheapest. I also buy in bulk, we have 7 boys as well so we buy 50-100 boxes of natural cereal when they go on sale for $1 box or cans of veggies and fruit when they go on sale.
Julie, I LOVE the idea of the cereal!!
I love your list! I usually get lazy and quite on my grocery list and then end up spending too much! And #4 made me laugh although it’s my hubby that puts things in the buggy that aren’t on the list!!
