Where did the name Marathon Mom come from?
My mother taught me at an early age that the goal of motherhood is to stay focused, to just keep at it, with the goal in mind being to raise our children to love God and love others. “Supermom” is NOT the goal, as the connotation implies that a mother is something that no human can possibly achieve. Moms striving to be “supermoms” sometimes burn out and can’t finish the race. “Marathon moms” just keep on running and running, and stay in the race in the good times and in the bad, in the sunshine and in the rain.
What will I find on The Marathon Mom page?
It is my goal to offer encouragement to moms on a daily basis. There is a mind/body/spirit connection, and to be good moms, we cannot ignore that. Therefore, I believe we must nourish our whole being. God is first! Once He is at the center, it’s much easier to set your priorities. To run strong, I am convinced you must have an intimate relationship with your Creator God, and after that, with your husband, your children and family. And of course, keeping our bodies fit and well nourished is important, too! So please be encouraged by whatever article you read, whether it be a new healthy recipe for your family, or anecdotal humor for the comic relief you just might need on a rainy day, or inspiration to seek your Loving Heavenly Father even more. Motherhood is a marathon. Run strong!
Are all of these children yours? Are they all boys?
Yes, Dax and I have been married for over 15 years, and have been blessed with seven sons, ranging in age from 13 years to newborn.
Did you have this many children on purpose?
Yes, we have welcomed each of our children as gifts from God and they are all very precious to us.
Did you plan to have this many boys? How did you have all boys?
No, we didn’t plan anything. These are the children that God has blessed us with.
You look so sane. How are you not crazy?
God is the center of our lives. Yes, sometimes the work is a lot, but perspective changes everything. We understand that each of our children was appointed by God to our specific family and that our job is to train them in the fear and admonition of the Lord. We take the job seriously, but we enjoy it at the same time. Our children are our favorite people. It also helps to have an occasional date night with my wonderful husband, and to get to eat out at a Mexican food restaurant most Friday nights with the family. Chocolate helps too. And writing.
Do you want a daughter?
We would love to have a little girl in our family, yes.
