7 Ways to Drink More Water

  1. Carry a water bottle when you’re on the go.  Get a big water bottle, BPA-free, if possible, and fill it to take with you every time you leave.
  2. Drink a glass first thing in the morning.  This helps get the body hydrated as soon as we wake up.  Try drinking before morning coffee.
  3. Try to drink a glass before each meal.  Not only keeps us hydrated, but keeps us from over-eating.
  4. Add lemon, lime, or orange wedges to your water.  Citrus fruits add just a touch of refreshing flavor with the extra benefit of vitamin C.
  5. Add a drop of lemon or grapefruit essential oil to a glass of waterLemon and grapefruit oils are cleansing.
  6. Take a glass of water with you to bed.  We often wake up in the middle of the night because we’re thirsty.
  7. Try drinking water when you think you want a snack.  Sometimes, we’re really just thirsty.

 What helps you drink more water?


  1. What I do which works great and ensures that I drink lots and lots of water every day, is that I start out drinking some water first thing in the morning. After each time I go to the bathroom, which is not too long after I’ve drunk water, that is my cue to drink more water. So I’ve gotten into the habit of drinking water after every time I go to the bathroom. It’s a cycle of course, and works really well as a reminder!

    Earlier this year I made getting 8 glasses of water per day a habit to develop. I found that what worked best for me was making a schedule. I drink a glass when I get up and begin my morning routine. The second glass comes after my morning workout. Third glass is when we begin our school work for the day – if I did not have it with breakfast. Fourth glass – with lunch. Fifth – around 2:00 PM (when I usually have an awful sweet craving!). Sixth around 4:00 when I begin preparing dinner. I try to get the last two glasses in with dinner, but sometimes I only drink one then I catch the other before going to bed, but if I do that, I have to get up at night for the bathroom, so I try to get them both with dinner. This is what worked for me. I love the idea of drinking before a meal. I have done that at times when I was really trying to keep from overeating. It works!

  3. I saw a “pin” one time that said to cut up a lemon or orange into tiny wedges or slices, drop one into each cube of an ice cube tray, fill with water and freeze. Cute, little water fresher-uppers. 🙂
